The first character sketch is of Simpsons character Homer Simpson. What like about this sketch is that it is all symmetrical. I like that this sketch has been built using half circles and circles this is to show that Homer is a happy and upbeat character. The illustrator is trying to achieve making a character that looks the same from all angles, is relatively simple and a character that is easy enough to draw the same every time. I would apply the techniques that the illustrator used in my animation for the purpose of everything being symmetrical and so everything will be easy to draw.
The second character sketch is of Disney character Mickey Mouse. What I like about this sketch is that it is made out of almost all circles, this is to show that Mickey Mouse is friendly, happy and upbeat, I also like the simplicity of the character design itself and the fact it doesn’t actually look like a mouse and is unrealistic. The illustrator is trying to achieve making a friendly looking character who would be easily recognisable by people of any age. I could apply the illustrators techniques by trying to make something unique and easily recognisable.
The third sketch is an early rough sketch of Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” a year before the film came out. What I like about this sketch is that has Ariel with different expressions and positions instead of just one position and expression. I also like that it is an early sketch so it is quite simple and shows the first few steps of creating a character. The illustrator was trying to achieve making a simple sketch to build from when the final sketches are made. I could use the illustrators technique by doing early sketches to build from when I do my final sketches.
